The times above are shown for the September 17 start date. Arizona and Hawaii times shift by an hour after daylight-saving time ends.

A supporter and an older loved one sit together at a kitchen table in a moderately disorganized home, both looking overwhelmed but connected. When helping starts to feel impossible.

For supporters

Does this sound familiar?

You’ve tried explaining.

You’ve tried reasoning.

You’ve tried setting boundaries.

And you still don’t know what to try next without making things worse.

Supporters often carry the urgency, the worry, and the responsibility while trying to respect someone they love. You deserve a place to understand what is happening and stop carrying the whole situation alone.

The cost of reacting

Hoarding disorder is costly. Reacting without a plan can cost more.

Families can spend thousands on cleanouts, storage, organizing, pest control, therapy, and repeated interventions—while still feeling no closer to a sustainable way forward.

The Supporter Circle offers a lower-cost place to learn what to try before the next crisis demands a more expensive response.

Comparable 12-session caregiver groups

$600–$840 At $50–$70 per session, before travel, time, or missed work. Your Supporter Circle investment: only a fraction of this cost.

Three-day cleanup scenario

$3,000+ Labor, disposal, dumpsters, storage, pest treatment, and organizing can become separate bills. Your Supporter Circle investment: only a fraction of this cost.

One documented case

$16,000 A published review describes one health department spending that amount to clean out a house and store the occupant’s possessions—then repeating the process 18 months later. Read the published review Your Supporter Circle investment: only a fraction of this cost.

A cleanout can change a room without changing the pattern. Forced or involuntary clearances can be traumatic, generally ineffective over the long term, and associated with reaccumulation and increased recidivism.

Illustrative comparisons only. Costs vary by provider, location, severity, and situation. Supporter Circle is not therapy, cleanup, or emergency response.

The people-first framework

People first.
Then the stuff.

Natural support becomes useful when you can practice it: see the person, replace pressure with permission, and choose a next step together.

Natural does not mean casual or unstructured. The Circle is carefully facilitated and evidence-informed—but the support remains human, mutual, and grounded in lived experience.

01 See the person before the possessions

Start with the person, history, and circumstances—not only the visible problem. That shift can make room for honesty, trust, and a less isolating conversation.

02 Replace pressure with permission

Practice people-first peer-support principles—strengths, choice, coping skills, and connection—so help does not quietly become control.

03 Practice one next step together

Bring a real situation, try new language, clarify a boundary, and leave with a next step you can actually sustain. You do not have to solve everything at once.

What the research suggests

Peer-facilitated groups produced essentially the same result as psychologist-led CBT. In a randomized study of 323 adults with hoarding disorder, symptoms decreased by 25.6% in structured peer-facilitated groups compared with 27.7% in psychologist-led CBT. That is a similar result in this study—not a claim that peer support replaces clinical care. Read the study
